It to be a collection of rough huts where beggars and criminals lived. It hasn’t always had the name Red Square either; it used to be called Trinity Square after a church. It’s not called Red Square because of red but because the Russian word that now means ‘red,’ once meant ‘beautiful. The square is for St. Basil’s Cathedral and the Kremlin, but nowadays it is also used for concerts, fashion shows and even circus acts.
