In the picture, you can see the water formula - H₂O. The H stands for hydrogen atoms, and the O stands for oxygen atoms. Each water molecule is made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. We know that water isn't always "wet". It has actually got three different states.

The first one is solid. Ice is the solid state of water. Three per cent of all the water on our planet is in this state and is found in glaciers.

The second state is liquid. It is the most usual one. The oceans hold ninety-seven per cent of the Earth's water in such a state.

The third state of water is called vapour or gas. When liquid water is heated to the boiling point of 100 degrees Celsius, it turns into vapour.

  1. What does the formula H₂O stand for? [oxygen|hydrogen|water]
  2. How many states does water have? [one|three|two]
  3. What is its boiling point? [0 degrees Celsius|100 degrees Celsius]
  4. How much of the Earth's water is found in glaciers? [97%|3%]
  5. How much of the Earth's water is in the oceans? [3%|97%]
