What is nanotechnology? It's a branch of technology that works with elements of microscopic size. Scientists say that they want to make their inventions in this sphere practically oriented, thus, they are eager to find some possible applications for their ideas. For instance, nanotechnology is often used in the medical domain, helping to perform non-invasive operations on the brain or heart and to destroy cancerous tissues. Nanotechnologies are also implemented in the sphere of microelectronics, architecture, space exploration and protection of the environment. It was revealed in some research that nanotechnologies can reduce risk of global warming and greenhouse effect and improve the efficiency of traditional materials for building construction, such as wood, glass or metal.
However, there are some concerns people express about these tiny but powerful electronic tools. In medicine, due to their small size, they can cause DNA mutation. Our skin, which serves as a natural protector against some external disruptive elements, such as viruses or bacteria, can't detect the nanotechnological device and let it inside our cells and membranes.
In terms of environmental benefits, there is a price to pay for them as well. Nature can resist being ordered or controlled by humans, all its rhythms may be destroyed, and we may encounter a global natural catastrophe. It will include, to name but a few, severe droughts, floods, hurricanes and extinction of endangered species.
