Imagine a situation: you are very tired after your classes, there are a lot of problems bothering you, you do not want to talk to anyone, and your life in general seems to be very difficult. Does it sound familiar? If you answer "yes", it means that you have met stress in your life.

Recently, studies have revealed that modern teenagers are even more stressed than adults, which is quite alarming for parents. Children become more stressed as they grow up. As we can see, stress among young people is quite widespread. Statistics show that about 33 % of teenagers encounter stress situations every day, while about 67 % of teenagers bear with stress at least once a week.So, what is stress? Stress is a response of our body to a threatening or unusual situation. Basically, under the stress, our cells produce special hormones that make us capable of staying alert to flee or fight the threat. Within reasonable limits, such hormones are vital for us, but if our body exceeds these limits, we may encounter some adverse effects. For example, sadness, irritation, anxiety, headache, fatigue, cognitive decline.

Now, let us think about the main triggers of stress for teenagers. Schoolwork is the leader among them. About 78 % of teenagers agree that school makes them feel anxious. Of course, there are exams and tests, oral presentations and performances, bullying, too much homework and pressure from relatives who are encouraging you to academic success.

What is more, we can speak about such points as physical changes of the organism, drastic changes in life, family problems, financial pressure and romantic relationships.

Another factor that is needed to be mentioned is social pressure. Teenagers become very sensitive about how their peers perceive them, they are eager to belong to some group. They want to be successful and popular, but if they fail to do so, they feel themselves as "losers", which ruins their self-esteem. Hence, stress.

Now, we found out some basic information about stress. Do not forget that some stress is necessary for your health and well-being. The question is how to cope with "detrimental" stress and minimize its effects? There are lots of strategies that can be implemented. For example, you can always ask your parents, friends or relatives for help. You can also find something interesting to do and immerse in this activity.
