Be prepared for the first local you meet in Tibet to show you their... tongue! Don't think that they want to offend you. They actually say "Hi" to each other in this manner. What they are trying to do is to ensure that the person they are meeting is not an evil spirit. In order to demonstrate to everyone that you are not a bad spirit either, just show your tongue as well. - [ ]
It's mandatory to sleep at work in Japan. This is called "inemuri" (literally, "sleep while being present"). "Inemuri" is used to describe some type of rest during the working day. People in Japan tend to work long hours. So due to those long workdays, Japanese workers must sleep at work. Additionally, Japanese people believe that those who get enough rest during "inemuri" are more productive than those who don't. - [ ]
When you are in China, you are free to chomp* noisily. In Chinese culture, to eat silently is to eat without satisfaction. Either the restaurant's chef or the household owner may take offense if guests eat in silence. So begin chewing your food or drinking your soup as loudly as you can to demonstrate your respect for the cook's culinary abilities.
* "Chomp" stands for "chew food loudly".
