A. No matter how hard we try, we will never find a place that is completely silent. Sounds are everywhere, all around us. In general, they are neither good nor bad. If a sound makes us annoyed, we think of it as noise. Today, most people live in towns and cities, and with more people comes more noise! In cities, we often talk about noise pollution, which refers to noise levels that make some people unhappy.

B. Our world contains many ecosystems, from tropical forests to coral reefs to urban parks. Ecosystems help us in important ways, including cleaning our air and water, storing carbon, and producing food. People have been shaping most ecosystems for at least 12,000 years, and human impact has become so intense that many ecosystems are now threatened. That is why the United Nations has decided that the next 10 years are the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. So, everyone should wonder how they can help the ecosystems around them.

C. Iodine is an essential element for humans. The human body does not produce its own iodine; therefore, we get it from our diets. Seafood is the biggest dietary source of iodine, and people who live close to the sea get plenty of this element. The lack of iodine can seriously affect human health, causing many medical problems. Since 1920, to minimise the problems related to not taking in enough iodine, many countries have been adding iodine to table salt.

D. Music is good for our brain in many ways. It can help our attention in school, improve our language skills, and help you connect better with other people. Research shows that playing music also contributes to our overall health and wellbeing and helps our thinking and planning skills. Music connects us across cultures, is a lot of fun, and can help us to feel the most amazing emotions or cheer us up when we are sad. This is why every person should have access to music training.

E. Living things are clearly dependent on their environment, but they also affect their environment — even on a global scale. Organisms can affect the global climate because of their huge numbers. For example, the enormous numbers of plants and microbes on Earth collectively control the amount of CO2 that remains in the air because they take it up to build their bodies. This is important for climate because CO2 traps heat in the Earth's atmosphere, which, through the greenhouse effect, contributes to global warming.

F. Rainfall is one of the most commonly shared experiences on Earth, and I will bet you regularly witness it. Sometimes you are ready with appropriate clothing and sometimes not! Rainfall is sometimes long and light, sometimes short and heavy, and sometimes long and heavy. When rainfall is long and heavy, it can lead to rapid flooding, which is dangerous for the nearby population. Rainfall is also necessary, since it provides water to plants and ultimately fills rivers.

G. Philosophers call the private experiences we have, such as the experience of fear, or enjoyment of the blue summer sky, subjective experiences. This means that the experiences are private, produced by our individual minds. No one else can tell how much pain you have with a rotten tooth, for example. Most philosophers believe that subjective experiences are the hallmarks of consciousness, which is the ability to smell jasmine, hear sounds such as music, or feel the touch of our clothes against our skin.
