Linking Words
When we write about a person's day, we use linking words to show the order things happen:

and: John comes to school, and the lessons start.

then: Kate has a shower. Then she has breakfast.

after that: Tom finishes his work at 6 o'clock. After that, he goes to the gym.

when: Laura wakes up when the alarm clock rings.

before: Joe always reads a book before he goes to sleep.
