Choose the correct answers
The compass is one of the oldest devices for spatial orientation. The prototype of the compass appeared in the 9th–10th centuries and helped travelers navigate through the numerous deserts of Central Asia. The device works because of the interaction between compass magnets and the Earth's magnetic field. This is why the compass can falsely determine the North near metal objects that will attract the magnetized needle.
Choose two objects near which the compass will show the wrong direction.
- Brick buildings
- Underground iron ore deposits
- Water bodies (rivers, lakes)
- Wooden houses
- Communication towers and power lines
