Strategies and useful tips
- Read the statements very carefully and point out the keywords to help you focus on what to listen for.
- The questions follow the order of the information in the recording.
- Do not confuse FALSE and NOT STATED. Be particularly careful with Not stated answers — information about this is just not in the text.
- Remember that answers should be based on information in the text, not what you personally think or know.
- If any of the statements are connected with feelings/opinions, think about how these might be expressed.
- Be careful with negatives in the statements.
- Listen and begin answering. Don't expect to be able to answer everything during the first listen. Finish answering when listening for the second time.
- Check your answers — have you answered every question?

Francesca: Hi, Jenny. Everything is fine, I’m working on another project.
Jenny: Oh, great! What kind of project?
Francesca: The results of the information collection showed that over the past couple of years, the communication of teenagers at school with each other, in the family and with teachers has significantly decreased. Sometimes it reached zero. I don’t want to blame gadgets and other types of communication, but this significantly slows down and complicates the communication process in the future.
Jenny: That is, is it difficult for teenagers to make contact?
Francesca: For example, many students in the classroom, instead of chatting, stand next to each other and correspond in a chat, can you imagine?
Jenny: Yes, it sounds strange.
Francesca: And then it becomes more and more difficult for them to get out of the virtual communication zone. They hardly talk to their parents. The phone replaced the real interlocutors.
Jenny: And how will your new project solve this problem?
Francesca: We offer parents and children to be transported to a kind of virtual reality where they will be given tasks. You can choose any location. And they get into a situation where they need to use communication skills to achieve their goals.
Jenny: It’s interesting, but I’m afraid teenagers will not participate in this.
Francesca: We have a certain rating, at the end of participation in this project, the most active are waiting for rewards.
Jenny: It’s great, but after the project, they will be sitting on the Internet again.
Francesca: Now I am working on how to extend the effect of participation in the project in real life.
Jenny: I think this is directly the participation of a parent who wants to establish communication with a child.
Francesca: Right. So the work on the project is not finished yet.
Jenny: I’m still surprised by the results of the study, is everything so bad?
Francesca: In large cities the problem is more acute than in villages.
Jenny: I hope you come up with something.
