Bloomsday is a holiday celebrated by fans of James Joyce every year on June 16th. The main inspiration for the holiday is the protagonist of the writer's most famous novel. June 16th is the day the book's plot takes place. Joyce chose this day to commemorate the anniversary of his first meeting with his wife. On this day in 1904, James met his future wife, Nora, who at the time was working as a hotel maid.

As part of Bloomsday, public readings of the James Joyce novel are taking place throughout Dublin. In addition, excursions along the routes of the main characters of the novel take place in Dublin.
