What do we use to talk about possession?
- We use 's after a singular noun:
Bob's car, my friend's car, the boy [ ] car.
- We use 's or ' after a singular noun ending in -s:
Jess's dog / Jess' dog, the princess's father / the princess' father, Boris [ ] dog / Boris [ ] dog.
- We use ' after a regular plural noun (ending in -s):
the girls' bedroom, my friends [ ] names.
- We use 's after an irregular plural noun:
the children's toys, the women [ ] bags.
- We use of (not 's) for things and places:
the capital of Russia, the door [ ] the classroom.
- To ask about possession, we use whose:
Whose car is this? — It's Mary's.
[ ] camera is this? — It's Peter's.
