Goshivons

A. A goshivon is a type of very cheap accommodation in Seoul, Korea. It is something between a studio flat and a dormitory. This flat is tiny with everything you need to live. These small rooms have a bed, a desk, a fridge and a small wardrobe. The floor area of the apartment is only 2×2 square metres and there is no window.

B. Goshiwons were originally meant as separate rooms for students to prepare for exams. Recently, they have become a common housing type for a large variety of people on a tight budget: not only for students but also for tourists.

C. Besides their low pricing, goshivons stand in prime locations where tight-fisted guests take all the advantages of the area where traditional accommodation costs a lot. Since goshivons have been designed for students, they are often close to universities.

D. Another benefit of this tiny flat is that it is fully furnished, one can find even a TV there! Some goshivons contain private options such as a toilet or a shower (so the price increases respectively), others may have shared bathrooms. The kitchen is also shared with other members of the building but is also very small.

E. Free food is another facility provided in most goshivons. Usually, rice, eggs and other Korean food are served. You do not have to pay for water, it is free. If a tourist or a student has more money, he can afford to rent a more expensive goshivon that offers better food.
