This text deals with…

1. strange names of dishes in the UK;

2. unusual Scottish food;

3. some popular British dishes;

4. a traditional English breakfast;

5. sweet food;

6. Christmas dinner in the UK.

A) The British have given a lot of strange names to their foods. For example, pigs in blankets — pork sausages wrapped in bacon and cooked. This dish is often served at Christmas dinner. Another funny dish is toad in the hole. There isn’t any frog in it, it’s sausages baked in dough. Also there is headcheese with no cheese, because it’s made with pork.

B) Festive dinner on Christmas Day is special. Every family has its own traditions but some British dishes are likely to be on every menu. Roast turkey and potatoes, pigs in blankets, gravy and cranberry sauce are all-time favourites. For dessert, the British usually have pudding.

C) There are British dishes every tourist has to try. The most famous is a full English breakfast — probably the most hearty breakfast in the world! It usually includes eggs, bacon, beans, pudding, sausages, grilled tomatoes and toasts. However, every person can change the recipe to their taste.

D) Most traditional British dishes are tasty and not very difficult to cook. Take fish and chips — it’s classic street food served in the open air, but it can be easily made at home. Another one is pigs in blankets — sausages wrapped in bacon. And if you are new to British food, you should try shepherd’s pie — it’s a pie with no dough!

E) Pudding is one of everyone’s favourite Christmas sweet dishes. However, there are other traditional British desserts, for example, Knickerbocker Glory and Banoffee pie. The first one is an ice cream sundae with red and white stripes. It includes vanilla ice cream and raspberry or any other fruit sauce. It’s great in summer! The Banoffee pie is a delicious pie made with crushed biscuits and condensed milk.
