JFK to the Empire State Building

John F. Kennedy is the main airport serving New York City. The airport is the busiest of the seven ones in the New York airport system. Over 90 airlines operate from the airport to more than 50 countries.

If you are travelling from the International Airport to the Empire State Building, there are a number of different ground transportation options available with different levels of convenience and cost.

Train

It is possible to catch the New York AirTrain and then the subway from JFK to the Empire State Building. The most straightforward way is to catch the AirTrain from the airport to Jamaica Station, then walk to the Sutphin Boulevard subway station and catch an E train, change trains again at Forest Hills station before alighting at 34 Street-Herald Square Station, and walking 350 metres to the Empire State Building. It takes approximately one hour and five minutes, and is the cheapest option of all listed below.

Bus

You can combine buses and trains to make your way from JFK to the Empire State Building, however there is no direct bus route. After catching the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, you can catch the Hempstead 761 bus towards Atlantic Terminal, before catching the Q train from Barclays Center Station to 34 Street-Herald Square Station. It takes longer to catch the bus and train rather than train alone.

Taxi

Catching a taxi from JFK to the Empire State Building is estimated at USD$42.50 with average traffic and USD$56 with heavy traffic (according to TaxiFareFinder app).

Airport Shared Shuttle

Alternatively, a shared shuttle from JFK is around USD$29 and takes just 35 minutes to get you exactly where you need to be.
