Some verbs can be followed by –ing or to + infinitive with a difference in meaning.

Remember + -ing = remember what you did in the past. Examples: I remember meeting this man at your birthday party last year. |
Remember + to + infinitive = not to forget to do something. Examples: Remember to buy some apples! I want to make an apple pie. |
Forget + -ing = not to remember what you did in the past. Examples: I forgot [ ] in hospital when I was four years old. |
Forget + to + infinitive = not to remember to do something. Examples: I forgot [ ] the apples for the pie. I must go back to the supermarket. |
Stop + -ing = to stop some activity. Examples: Stop [ ], please! You are in class. |
Stop + to + infinitive = to make a pause to do something else: Examples: He stopped at the newsagent's [ ] the newspaper headlines. |
Go on + -ing = to continue the activity. Examples: She went on [ ] the piano even when the lights went out. |
Go on + to + infinitive = to start a new activity. Examples: After the party, she went on [ ] up. |
Regret + -ing = to be sorry about your past actions. Examples: I regret [ ] the book to him. It was a rare book and he lost it. |
Regret + to + infinitive = to be sorry that you must do something. Examples: I regret [ ]you that we can't offer you this job. |
