Reported speech: tenses
Прямая речь — это чья-либо речь, переданная буквально. Прямая речь заключается в кавычки.

Косвенная речь — это речь, которая передаётся в виде придаточных изъяснительных предложений.

В косвенной речи личные и притяжательные местоимения изменяются по смыслу:

"Ilove playing withmydog," George says. — George saysheloves playing withhisdog.

Если глагол в главном предложении (словах автора) стоит в Present Simple, то в придаточном предложении глаголы используются в том же времени, что и в прямой речи.

Если глагол в главном предложении (словах автора) стоит в Past Simple, то придаточное предложение строится в соответствии с правилами согласования времён. Время, в котором глагол используется в прямой речи, изменяется следующим образом:

• Present Simple → Past Simple;
• Present Continuous → Past Continuous;
• Present Perfect → Past Perfect;
• Past Simple → Past Perfect;
• Future Simple → Future in the past (would);
• can → could.

Если глагол в главном предложении (словах автора) стоит в Past Simple, некоторые наречия времени и места и указательные местоимения также изменяются:

• now → then;
• today → that day;
• tonight → that night;
• yesterday → the previous day, the day before;
• two days ago → two days before;
• tomorrow → the next day, the following day;
• this week → that week;
• last week → the previous week, the week before;
• next week → the next week, the following week, the week after;
• here → there;
• this → that;
• these → those.
