A. Considered by many to be the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships in the 1990s, was the MVP of the league five times and also won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA and an NCAA title at the University of North Carolina. He rarely seemed frightened by pressure. The key to his cool was preparation. "People didn't believe me when I told them I practiced harder than I played, but it was true," he told ESPN's Jackie MacMullan in 2019. "That's where my comfort zone was created. By the time the game came, all I had to do was react to what my body was already accustomed to doing." His self-assurance grew from there, even if he understood that perfection was impossible.

B. In a sport in which a split-second loss of balance could mean the difference between a gold medal and nothing, Simone Biles has been seemingly immune to pressure. The American gymnastics star won five medals (four of them gold) at the 2016 Olympics in Rio and became the first woman to win five world championship all-around titles. While her rivals may be obsessing over the details of their routines, Biles lets herself be distracted during competitions. "I'm one of the few gymnasts who can just block out anything. I could probably be thinking about pizza before I go and compete. A lot of people like to focus on their routines, but I feel like if I focus on it too much, I get more stressed out and I overthink; and that's when I don't do my best. I try not to think about it."

C. During one of the most exciting moments in her life, actress Patti Murin was not immune to the effects of stress. In April 2018, shortly after she debuted as Princess Anna in the hit Broadway adaptation of the blockbuster Disney animated film "Frozen", Murin suffered what she called "a massive anxiety attack" and called out of that evening's performance. "While the past month has been incredible, all of the ups and downs and stress and excitement really takes a toll on my mental health," she wrote on the social network the next day. Later, she explained to the website Refinery29, she went public to let others know that it's OK to experience anxiety.
