Queen Victoria was born on 24 May 1819 at Kensington Palace, London. Her father was Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn. Her mother was Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. Victoria was baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Cupola Room of Kensington Palace. Victoria was the fifth succession after her father and uncles. After the death of her grandfather and her father in 1820, she was the next probable heiress. In her childhood, Victoria was warm-hearted, little mischievous and lively. She was also known for her natural gracefulness right from childhood. She used to carry herself with unselfconscious poise. When King George IV passed away in 1830, Victoria was eleven years old. It seemed she might play an important role in the British politics. When Victoria entered her teenage it became clear that she would be the heir to the British throne. However, her mother forbade her to meet new people, and she became sad and melancholic. Her mother made sure that Victoria would receive liberal education studying music, drawing, history, foreign languages and natural philosophy. Victoria was taught by private tutors. She learnt various languages including, French, Italian, German and Latin. In her free time, she played with her dolls and her spaniel, Dash. Since 1830 she had forcefully been taken by her mother on trips across the country. These trips were greatly despised by her.
