Saint Basil's Cathedral is an Orthodox church situated in Red Square in Moscow. It is one of the most popular cultural symbols of Russia. Saint Basil's Cathedral was being built from 1555 to 1561 by order of Tsar Ivan IV the Terrible. It was built in honour of the great victory of Ivan the Terrible over the Kazan Khanate. The church was designed by two Russian architects, Postnik and Barma. According to one of the popular legends, the architects blinded after completed the cathedral, so that they could never create anything that was similar or equal. The cathedral could disappear during Napoleon's invasion. Saint Basil's Cathedral is one of the most recognisable Russian buildings. Today, it is open to the public as a museum. In 1990 Saint Basil's Cathedral was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, along with the Moscow Kremlin and Red Square.
