Why We Should Teach Our Children About Body Positivity
A. TV, social media, and magazines tend to promote an unrealistic image of a human body. They make us think that our bodies must be ideal and perfect and set standards that can't be achieved. Such unrealistic standards have a negative impact on our self-esteem. This affects not only adults but teenagers and little kids as well.
B. Our society has had enough of this, and the body-positive movement has developed recently. It is now becoming more and more popular. Body positivity is the state of feeling comfortable and happy with your body no matter what your height, build, skin colour or special features are.
C. Now we can see fashion models who do not fit into traditional standards, for example, plump models or models with disabilities. More and more people are ready to accept the fact that we all have different bodies and our bodies mustn't become the source of negative emotions or the reason for low self-esteem.
D. It is very important to teach your children about body positivity. If you don't teach them to love and respect their body, they might grow up having a lot of complexes about their appearance. This might lead to extreme dieting and unhealthy eating habits, as well as provoking and destructive behaviour. The concern about their appearance won't let them pursue their goals and become successful.
