The Kremlin
The Moscow Kremlin is a historic fort complex situated in Moscow. The word 'Kremlin' means a fortress. It is the largest fortress in Europe. It includes five palaces, four cathedrals. The Moscow Kremlin was originally a wooden structure made of oak wood. It was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yury Dolgoruky. The walls that surround the Kremlin are 1.25 miles long enclosing an area of more than 90 acres of land. The Kremlin boasts of the world's largest bell that was never rung because it was broken during the construction. And the world's largest cannon is so big that it could never be fired on ground. The Kremlin Armoury is now a museum showcasing the weapons and collectibles of the Tsars including the famous Faberge's eggs. The Great Bell Tower at the Kremlin is said to mark the geographic centre of Moscow. In 1917, the Kremlin became the headquarters of the Soviet government. The complex also serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation. The Kremlin was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1990.
