Iconic landmarks
There are some landmarks that are much more than local tourist attractions. They are important symbols for their countries.
In Russia, Kremlin in Moscow is such a landmark. Originally it was built as a castle. Now the Russian government meetings take place in Kremlin. The Kremlin walls have 20 towers, all of them are different from each other. There are several cathedrals in Kremlin. There is also a big museum complex that attracts many tourists.
In the United States, the most iconic landmark is the Statue of Liberty. You can see it on an island near the New York City. For Americans, this monument is a symbol of freedom and everything patriotic. The statue holds a torch in its right hand.
For the Great Britain, the most iconic landmark is Big Ben. It is a great bell in a high clock tower in England. It was built in the XIX century. At the time, the clock was the biggest and the most accurate clock in the world. It is a custom to use Big Ben for every New Year countdown. People gather to watch fireworks when Big Ben is ringing.
