The Battle of Waterloo
[ ] 18th June 1815, the French army, led [ ] Napoleon, embarked upon [ ] of the most famous battles [ ] history. Their opponents: the British and allied forces who had joined together to defeat the powerful emperor. Having scattered the Prussian army two days prior, Napoleon was confident [ ] he would win the battle. He had led France to victory on multiple occasions and believed that this battle would be [ ] different. As such, the French army were the first to strike. They launched a powerful attack on the allied front line; however, the British military responded [ ] cannons and managed to maintain their ground. [ ] the day progressed, neither side seemed to have the advantage. But then, the Prussian army arrived to join the allied forces. Greatly outnumbered, the French army fell. Napoleon had finally [ ] defeated.
The decisive battle put an end [ ] 23 years of war and made the leader of the allied forces, the Duke of Wellington, a hero throughout Europe. In fact, he was [ ] popular that he later became the Prime Minister of Britain. As for Napoleon, he was exiled to the distant island of St. Helena [ ] he was condemned to spend the rest [ ] his days.
