Christmas is a day when all your family and the people you love get together around the Christmas tree, exchange gifts, cook something special and enjoy the company of each other. But is it easy to prepare? Roy, 51 and Emma, 52, who live in Dundee, Scotland, are parents of 13 children, and they say that Christmas can also be hard work.
In the Hanns' family the preparation process starts on Christmas Eve, when Roy, the father, asks his children to help with cooking. Usually they peel vegetables and do it together, so there isn't much space in the kitchen. But Roy and Emma always need some help, because at the Christmas table the family eats 25 kg of potatoes, 8 kg of turkey, 2 kg of sausages, 20 carrots and 60 Yorkshire puddings! The family also cooks 4 cakes. They spend £300 on food only and say that without the children's help they just can't be ready in time.
Gifts are another thing they spend a lot of money on — £100 on each child. Emma wraps them until 2 a.m. every year. The Christmas morning begins when all the children run into the Roy and Emma's bedroom and the youngest start jumping on their bed. The parents are afraid that it can break one day. Then the children get very busy opening the presents. This is a happy time for Emma and Roy because they can sleep a bit more.
In the evening they all dress up and have a family dinner. Roy gives the same toast every time. He says that even though the preparation process makes them very tired, they're all very happy to spend time together and would never change it for anything.
