The Sydney Opera House is one of the masterpieces of human creativity, not only in the 20th century but also in the history of humankind. The Opera House became a World Heritage Site in 2007. The Egyptian pyramids, the Great Wall of China, and this building have become world-known.
Jorn Utzon from Denmark \(1918\-2008\) was the brilliant architect of the Sydney Opera House. Queen Elizabeth II held the opening ceremony in 1973.
Beneath the world’s most memorable roof, more than 5,700 people can visit six performance venues. There is a public square, a fine restaurant under a smaller set of sail-like constructions, and one of the most compelling views.
“Utzon made a building well ahead of its time,” said Frank Gehry, the architect of the titanium-clad Guggenheim Museum on the waterfront at Bilbao, when in 2003 Utzon got the prestigious Pritzker Prize.
Many Danish architects took part in the development of engineering ideas in South Wales.
