Each colony has a queen bee and worker bees. A worker bee’s life is very short, usually about four weeks. Worker bees fly and collect nectar from flowers. A bee can see some colours. By the way a bee must visit about 4,000 flowers to make a tablespoon of honey. Worker bees are very busy insects. Insects live all over the world. There are more kinds of them than of all animal species. We know more than 850,000 different kinds of insects. In other words, eight out of ten of all the Earth’s animals are insects! Some of them are very small, others are as big as your hand. Some of them are useful and helpful. Others are dangerous. Many have interesting life stories. Here are some of them.
