Every winter the brightest and most impressive holiday that covers the entire country, the carnival, takes place in Brazil. The Brazilian Carnival attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world to the city of Rio, where they can enjoy the sounds of samba, as well as take part in the carnival procession.
In 1840, the very first carnival took place in Rio, where the main dances were European polka and waltz.
At the beginning of the 20th century, samba—which is considered traditional Brazilian music—was played at the carnival for the very first time. Samba is the product of mutual love for the music of former colonists and former slaves. African slaves brought to Brazil by the Portuguese gave birth to the first samba rhythms. As a result, the Brazilian Carnival combined a European festival with African rhythms, music and dances. Samba music in street parades contributed to the rise of samba schools in Rio de Janeiro.
Almost a whole week of carnival is an endless holiday. Only on these few days of the year it is allowed to pretend to be someone. The poor can wear expensive costumes, the rich can blend in with the crowd of ordinary people. Men can wear women's clothes, and girls at the carnival in Rio de Janeiro are practically not dressed. Everything that can be called clothing is a collection of sequins and feathers. Carnival is a legitimate opportunity to allow yourself to forget everyday problems and escape into a fantasy world.
The main feature of the carnival is that all negativity and complexes are burned during dancing and having fun. People get a huge charge of cheerfulness, fun, and happiness!
