It is a well-known fact that if you want to watch an English or American film, there is nothing better than watching it in an original language. When you do this, it is a real pleasure. You can feel the atmosphere better, understand the characters better and finally, hear the real voice of your favourite actors and actresses. However, you will get no pleasure at all if you don't understand a word in the film. To get some use from watching a film, you'd better follow some simple rules.

First of all, it is a very good idea to prepare a notebook in order to take some notes. You can write down words, phrases and sentences to use them in future real-life situations. While watching, make pauses to understand what the characters say and write down new combinations.

If you've never watched a film in English before, choose the film you've already seen in your own language. Make sure you're familiar with its plot. Even if you don't understand anything from the beginning, don't be nervous. It usually takes time (15-20 min) to get used to the speech, accent and rhythm.

It's also a good idea to find a film with subtitles. You'll hardly learn anything if you watch the whole film without them. If there are no subtitles for the chosen film, you can always download them from the Internet, and it will be even better if the subtitles synchronise with the film.

You can devote about 30-40 minutes to the productive work, so watch the film in parts. If you're not a fan of waiting for a week or two to know how the film ends, pick a TV series. By doing this, you can watch a 20-minute episode at one sitting and a 40-minute episode at two.

When you finish dealing with one film or TV series it would be nice to rewatch it again after some time without subtitles. When you do this, you refresh the information and get a pleasure of watching it without stops.

As simple as that! But don't ignore the commentaries of your teachers when they correct your pronunciation. Make notes and learn words as it is essential to have a good vocabulary to understand as much as possible.
