Australia is an old continent which has very unusual animals. Some of these animals exist nowhere in the world except this place.

Echidna is an animal with a tiny face, small eyes and a long nose, sometimes called a beak. It has spines on its back and sides. This animal is active mostly at night. It eats different insects, which it catches with the help of long sticky tongue.

Emu is an ostrich with long feathers which look like fur. Emus always move to find food and water. They eat fruit, roots, grass, different plants and insects. The kangaroo is a symbol of Australia. It has short front legs and very strong and long back legs. Its tail is also very long. Kangaroos can jump very high and move very quickly.

Kiwis are small birds which can't fly. They have tiny wings and a long beak. They hide during the day and become active at night. This birds eat insects, berries and fruit.

Koala looks like a small bear with grey fur. This animal lives mostly on trees. It has sharp claws, which help it to climb and jump on trees. Koalas are usually very slow and can sleep for most part of the day.

Platypus has duck's beak and a flat tail. It lives near the water and can swim and catch small fish very well. It has no teeth and eats food with the help of a beak. These animals are mammals, but they are born from eggs.
