Sam is thirteen years old, and he enjoys watching videos and chatting with friends on his favourite social media app. Last weekend, while he was scrolling through short videos, a strange message appeared. It said: “Congratulations! You’ve won a new smartphone. Click here to claim your prize!”
At first, Sam felt excited. The message looked real and even had the logo of a famous brand. But then he remembered a lesson from his ICT class about fake websites and online scams. He didn’t click the link. Instead, he took a screenshot and showed it to his older sister.
His sister was proud of him and helped him report the message. They also scanned the phone using antivirus software just to be sure. Nothing harmful was found, but Sam learned to be more careful. Now, before downloading anything or following a link, he always checks with an adult he trusts.
