Constitution Day of the Russian Federation
On December 12, 1993, Russia held a nationwide constitutional referendum, in which a total of about 59 million voters, or 54.8 percent of the registered electorate, took part. In all, almost 33 million people \(58\.4 percent\) voted in favour of the document. In September 1994, Russian President Boris Yeltsin signed a decree proclaiming December 12 a national holiday. Every citizen of our country, if he considers himself a patriot, must honour and respect the Constitution of the Russian Federation. And real patriotism, love for the great Motherland begins with taking care of your family and relatives, your street, village, city, or district. It is customary to celebrate Constitution Day in Russia on a large scale with patriotic events, meetings and concerts.
