Cultural sites are often sacred to local people and integral to a country's history. When travelling and visiting archaeological sites you can easily damage fragile historical artefacts. Here are three tips on how to protect ancient places from harmful human impact.

Vandalism of petroglyphs and pictographs erases stories of ancient people and destroys the experience for future visitors. The best type of interacting with them is looking at them by of admiration.

2. GPS reveals too much. GPS points often lead uneducated visitors to sensitive sites. When posting online about your trip, remove all references to location. Don't try to the gap between local fragile ecosystems and curious but careless tourists.

3. View sites from a distance. Visiting many archaeological sites requires viewing them from the distance because of their fragility. Don't be afraid that these restrictions will make your sightseeing experience dull! It's always possible to look at the surroundings a new light even from a safe distance. What's more, you're often allowed to take photos and videos!
