Anton Chekhov was a famous Russian writer who lived between 1860 and 1904. He was not only a writer but also a doctor. Chekhov is well-known for his short stories and plays. People still enjoy his works today because they are full of interesting characters and great ideas. Anton was born in the town of Taganrog, which is near the Black Sea. He grew up in a big family with five siblings. His father was a strict man, but his mother was loving and kind. Anton had a difficult childhood, but he was always interested in learning and reading.
When he was 19 years old, Chekhov went to Moscow to study medicine. He became a doctor, and he used his medical knowledge to help people. At the same time, he started to write stories for newspapers and magazines. Chekhov's first important short story collection was called "The Tales of Melpomene" (1884). His writings often showed the lives of ordinary people, the joys and problems they faced. His stories were famous for the "Chekhovian style", which means that they used simple language and realistic details.
Anton Chekhov's also famous for his plays. Two of his most famous ones are "The Seagull" (1896) and "The Cherry Orchard" (1904). These plays are about human feelings and relationships, they show people's dreams and disappointments. Unfortunately, Chekhov's health was not good. He often travelled to warm places like Yalta to feel better. He continued to work as a doctor and a writer until his death in 1904.
