Types of Bullying
Bullying is arrogant, abusive behaviour associated with an imbalance of power or authority. Bullying comes in many forms—there are verbal, physical, social forms of bullying as well as cyberbullying.
Verbal bullying is verbal intimidation through violent words that includes constant insults, threats, and disrespectful comments about someone concerning their appearance, religion, ethnicity, disability, dress code, etс. Children who have been bullied often become withdrawn, moody or have problems with appetite. They can tell you about hurtful words someone has said about them and ask you if this is true.
Physical bullying is bullying through violent physical intimidation that involves repeated hitting, kicking, tripping, blocking, pushing and touching in an unwanted or inappropriate way. When this happens, many children do not tell their parents about the incident, so watch for possible warning signals and indirect signs such as unexplained cuts, scrapes, bruises, missing or torn clothing, frequent complaints of headache and abdominal pain.
Social bullying is bullying with isolation tactics that involves deliberately keeping someone out of a group, be it eating at the dinner table, playing, doing sports or social activities. Watch for changes in your child's mood, reluctance to be involved with peers and a greater than usual desire for loneliness.
Bullying in cyberspace is about abusing someone by using offensive words, lies and false rumours through email, text messages and social media posts. Sexist, racist and similar messages create a hostile atmosphere even if not directed right at the child. Keep track of whether your child spends more time on the Internet, communicating on social networks whether they are sad and anxious. Even if they read unpleasant messages on their computer, phone or tablet, this may be their only way of socialising.
