Read the text and answer the question.
When I think about children's manners, scenes of my own life come to my mind. I have taken my three-year-old son to visit an old friend, someone I'd like him to impress. But he lies down on the living room floor and asks our hostess, "Where are the biscuits and the sweets?"
An elderly woman comes to visit our home for lunch; her curls are coloured blue. "Why is your hair that funny colour?" my daughter asks.
At a restaurant, my little son and nine-year-old daughter take each other's food, spill everything all over themselves, talk with their mouths full and eat with their fingers.
These incidents are really embarrassing as I'm supposed to be a manners expert. But all parents are affected by this problem no matter how hard they try to instill good manners in their children.
A child's good manners are an essential part of social development. Spoiled kids tend to grow up into bad and unsuccessful people but those who are encouraged to be considerate of others grow up to be good and respected adults.
