Shadow's rescue story

Three years ago I lived in Devon. The curtain of a quiet autumn night was falling upon us, and I was on my way home. I was about to go in the door when I heard a soft meowing. I looked around and could not figure out where the sound was coming from. Within seconds, I saw a little black paw emerge from beneath my neighbour's truck. There was a little black cat sitting under the truck.

As I got closer, she started meowing louder and louder. She let me pet her. Then I saw that something was wrong with the cat's front leg. After I picked her up, she purred in my ear. "Good, she's not in much pain," I thought. Since she was not wearing a collar, I was very worried about her because there were many stray cats in my neighbourhood, and I had seen some neighbourhood kids harassing and throwing rocks at them. I understood that she had been one of their victims, so I took her inside and gave her some tuna.

The next day I took her to the local animal shelter and asked them if they knew if anyone was looking for a black cat. But no one was looking for a cat. The volunteers at the local animal shelter also said that if I left her there, they would probably put her down because of her leg. I could not do that to such a sweet little cat, so I decided to check out her leg. It turned out that the bones in her leg were innately deformed. I was so relieved that she did not need surgery and that she wasn't in pain. Finally, I decided that she would live with me from now on.

Shadow is the princess of the house now. I spoil her with treats and affection. She does well in the house. She can do everything other cats can do, just not jump as high. I feel like she chose me the day when she was under the truck. Now I can hardly imagine my life without her. She is the light in my life.
