Read the text about an interesting animal and answer the questions below.
When you think of deserts, you might probably recall an animal that has become a real symbol of these sandy areas. It's an Arabian camel or dromedary.
These animals have got long thin legs. Unlike deer or cows, they don't have any horns. Dromedaries belong to a breed of camels with a single hump, but they've learned to use it very effectively. Their humps consist of fat and water and allow dromedaries to travel up to one hundred miles through a waterless desert. Legend has it that long ago camels had no humps. One day a lazy camel refused to work, and a Jinn decided to punish him. The Jinn gave him a hump that allowed the camel to work all day long without having to eat or drink.
What other adaptations do Arabian camels use to survive in the desert? First, their nostrils help them to filter sand, while their thick eyebrows and two rows of long eyelashes protect their eyes. With their big rough lips, they can eat very dry and spiny desert plants. Massive feet provide their ability to keep balance both in rocky areas and on shifting sands.
Dromedaries became domesticated about three thousand years ago. They serve as so-called pack animals. Their job is to carry large and heavy cargoes for long distances.
You can sometimes see these unusual animals at the zoo.
