A recent report by WWF shows that nowadays many rivers around the world are in danger. The report warns that among the endangered rivers are such big and famous rivers as the Rio Grande in North America, the Ganges and the Yangtze in Asia, and the Nile in Africa.

These waterways provide millions of people with fresh water, but now they’re experiencing fast degradation. They might dry out within the next 50–100 years if nothing changes.

Dams, pollution, and global warming have become the main reasons for the sad events. When people take water from the river in times of drought, they cause irreparable harm to it. This can influence ecosystems (river animals and fish) as well as people’s communities living along the banks of rivers.

WWF is working hard to improve the situation. The main solution they’re applying is protecting some areas most important for wildlife. They’re also trying to provide farmers with amounts of water sufficient to maintain their farming activities without damaging nature.
