Rules
Phrasal verbs are divided into 4 types:
- Transitive Phrasal Verb = Phrasal verb + object
(requires an object; without an object the verb loses its meaning). - Intransitive Phrasal Verb = Phrasal verb + object
(does not need an object; sounds complete and expresses meaning without an object). - Separable Phrasal Verb = take back the shirt = take the shirtback = take it back
(the verbs and particles can be separated; pronoun goes in the middle of the phrasal verb). - Inseparable Phrasal Verb = break intopieces \(\not = \) break piecesinto
(the verbs and particles can't be separated).
