The Best Jobs in the World

For most people, going to work every day means dressing up, sitting at a desk and working on a computer. But not for everybody. Let’s take a look at some of the more unusual and fun jobs that are available today.

A

Lego Master Builder

How would you like to spend all day every day playing with your favourite toys? Well, if you’re any good at creating objects with Lego bricks then this could be in your future. The Lego Group employs Lego Master Builders, whose job it is to build impressive statues out of tiny bricks for their parks around the world. You need to be creative and have a degree in Art and Design. The interview lasts two days, but if you get through you too could spend your time hanging out in a workshop, filled with every type of Lego brick you’ve ever dreamed of. If you’ve ever wanted to build enormous, seven-metre-long sharks and ten-foot-tall castles, then this is the job for you.

B

Waterslide Tester

Do you like swimming? Do you enjoy the holidays? Then perhaps a job as a waterslide tester is for you. The position involves travelling the world, from Jamaica to Turkey, climbing up ladders and testing the rides in water parks. The best waterslides have to have big splashes and lots of adrenalin and they all need testing to make sure that they are safe enough for the holidaymakers. Best of all, no formal education is necessary to get this job. Applicants merely have to ride a slide in front of a panel of judges to prove they have the skills needed. Hazards of the job include wrinkly fingers and sunburn, but it’s a small price to pay for one of the best jobs in the world.

C

Island Caretaker

Are you the sort of person who would like to earn money by living in a villa on a tropical island and spending your days sunbathing? This is the job of the caretaker of Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef. Duties include giving out the mail and feeding the fish. Applicants are not required to have any particular educational background, but the person who gets the job has to be able to swim, snorkel and scuba dive. It isn’t all sunshine and sand, though. The caretaker will also have to look out for sharks and jellyfish heading for tourists swimming in the warm waters near the beaches. The life of an island caretaker can sometimes be very dangerous!

D

Chocolate Taster

If you have a sweet tooth then why not try a job as a chocolate taster? Not only do chocolate tasters get to eat delicious sweets all day, they also get to invent new flavours and check out interesting ingredients. You don’t need to have attended cooking school to do this job, but you do need to have an excellent sense of taste and smell. To get the job, applicants have to pass a blind taste test, where they guess the flavours of chocolates that are made up by the interviewer from strange ingredients. This sort of work also pays very well. After eating all that sugar, the money will certainly come in handy when it’s time to pay the dentist’s bills!
