We use be going to + V:

1. For plans which [have already been made|we have done] or we intend to do.

My friend Dora is going to visit me at the end of December.

2. To make predictions based on [previous experience|present evidence] or knowledge.

Look at the clouds! It's going to rain soon!

We use will + V:

1. For actions which we decide to do as we [speak|have finished speaking].

I'll look online for the address I need.

2. To offer, request or promise something.

I'll help you carry your bags.

3. To talk about [future|present] facts.

Tomorrow will be the day before Christmas.
