These days, with the improvement of online educational tools, integrating online learning into games has become more common. Even internet games are being used for teaching purposes. However, there are different views on whether learning through playing video games is effective.
On the flip side, this teaching approach has disadvantages. One drawback is that students may be focused on the games themselves and not want to delve deeper into the subject. For example, when playing an interactive maths game, you may try to guess all the answers instead of solving the problems. Another negative aspect is that online games encourage students to spend more time online, which is harmful to their health. For instance, spending more than two hours a day looking at the screen of your device or computer may lead to blurred vision, headaches, and other problems.
In conclusion, learning through online games has both supporters and critics. I believe we should accept technological changes and benefit from them. However, we shouldn't forget the main goal of education, which is to gain knowledge, and ensure that new tools support it, not replace it.
It is clear that video games created for education have significant advantages and can be educational. Firstly, psychologists suggest that people learn things better by solving interesting tasks. For example, students may not even realise how they have learnt something if they have to complete a level in their favourite game. Moreover, many children and teenagers are genuinely enthusiastic about online games. Participating in an interactive story similar to the games they play every day may entertain them and engage them more in school topics.
