— What do you consider the biggest ecological problem today?

— I think it's the water shortage. Billions of people lack clean drinking water.

— Really? How come? There is plenty of water on the planet, isn't there?

— You are only partly right. There are lots of rivers, lakes and seas, but not all water is drinkable.

— Why so?

— Industrial plants release waste into rivers and lakes. Water is the so-called universal solvent, that's why it's easily polluted.

— So there's nothing we can do?

— Actually, we can, but it requires joint effort and acting together.

— What exactly?

— Governments should impose a ban on dumping waste into rivers and make factories use water-purification systems.

— Agree. That's the way we can make ourselves healthier by cleaning the water we use. Well, you said about polluted lakes and rivers, but what about the ocean?

—The ocean provides us with food (seafood and fish), various materials and oxygen.

—Yes. And these days it suffers from pouring toxic substances into it and plastic pollution.

—What are the ways to change the situation?

—For instance we can do what depends on us personally. Not to dump plastic in the water, so that animals and birds can't try to eat it. There are tons of plastic in the ocean, so probably we should start with ourselves and recycle plastic we use.

—I can add one more — we could try to reduce the amount of the plastic we use.

—You're right! Also we can participate in clean-up projects when volunteers clean the coastlines from waste.

— I totally agree with you.
