In Indian culture, red is one of the most important colours. It has got a lot of different meanings, such as beauty, fire, love, power, fear, and purity. It is also a symbol of married women: they put red henna drawings on their hands and colour their hairlines red.

In South Africa, red represents blood, violence, and mourning. The red part of the country's flag means people killed during the wars for independence.

In Thailand, each day of the week has got its own colour and is dedicated to a special god. Sunday is believed to be red, and its god is Surya, the god of the Sun. Thai people usually wear red clothes on the day Surya was born.

Chinese people usually wear red at weddings and funerals and on big holidays such as New Year. They also decorate buildings with red lamps and dragons. They believe that red is a lucky colour; it can bring happiness and long life to people.
