The body positivity movement has got a long history and quite an ambiguous image nowadays. Some people believe it's body positivity that can change the world and make people's lives better. However, others blame it for being an unhealthy and even harmful lifestyle. Let's look at the issue from both sides.

Body positivity appeared as a part of feminist views. It considered that all bodies of all people are equally beautiful. Some supporters of the movement say that being beautiful or handsome is not as important as being strong, healthy, and smart. Body positivity is especially important for people with disabilities. For example, it can be difficult for a person who experienced a road accident and lost a leg to return to normal life. Body positivity teaches people to believe in themselves even if they look quite far from what is known to be "usual".

However, some people blame the movement for being way too focused on the problems of overweight people and even people with obesity. "Instead of joining a gym, eating healthily, and improving themselves, body positivists try to make other people like them the way they are," the opponents remark. They also add that the movement makes people lazy and messy instead of helping them to lose weight and look much better.

Both sides have got their points here. Being overweight is really bad for your health. But it's important not to forget that you don't know what a particular person has gone through. Each person has a right to love their body whatever it looks like. Sometimes self-care is impossible without steady self-esteem. It's hard to care about something you hate. That's why accepting everyone's appearance and avoiding any kind of criticism can help everyone to become healthier and happier.
