Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was a very talented writer who wrote many famous books for children.

He was born in Wales in 1916. When he was three years old, his family moved to England. Roald had a happy childhood and loved to play with his friends. He grew up and went to school in England.

At the age of 18, Roald went to work for an oil company in Africa. During World War II, he was a fighter pilot. After the war, he started to write stories for children.

Roald Dahl's first book was published in 1943. It was called The Gremlins. He became famous for writing books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Big Friendly Giant and Fantastic Mr Fox. These books were translated into multiple languages and turned into films and plays. His books are known for their funny characters and exciting adventures.

What's surprising is that Dahl never learned to type, so he wrote all of his books by hand using a pencil and paper!

Dahl created more than 500 words and character names. One word he created, 'Oompa-Loompa', became very popular thanks to his book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Roald Dahl died in 1990, but his books are still popular today. He played a big role in the world of children's literature.
