1. Alexander Pushkin

This famous person was a legendary Russian playwright, poet, and novelist. He is one of the most significant people of the Romantic era and Russian literature. One of his famous works is "Ode to Liberty", it led him to be exiled by Russian Tsar Alexander I. His main novel is called "Eugene Onegin". It made him famous among people.

2. Maxim Gorky

This man was born in 1868 in Nizhny Novgorod. His real name was Alexei Peshkov. He was a Russian and Soviet writer and an activist in politics. He was famous as the founder of the socialist realism literary method. This famous person started to write poems, short stories, and novels. Then he turned to drama. He had nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature five times. His several novels got adapted into plays, films, and operas. Valery Zhelobinsky adapted the novel of this writer called "Mother" into an opera in 1938.

3. Ivan Turgenev

This person was a Russian novelist and short-story writer. The most famous book is "Fathers and Sons". Soon that book became a part of classic literature. His main publication had the name "A sportsman's sketches". This person was one of the writers who played an important role in popularizing Russian literature in the West. He was the only Russian writer who was considered to have a European outlook.

4. Nikolai Gogol

This writer was born in Ukraine and became a popular Russian dramatist, novelist, and short-story writer. Ukrainian culture influenced this writer very much. His works included romantic sensibility, with the elements of surrealism and grotesque. He is also known for his description of real-life characters. His novel "Taras Bulba", short stories "Diary of a Madman", "The Portrait", the play "Marriage" and "The Carriage" are some of his most important and popular works.
