Mystery man

Mister Black attended to the important mission of (30) his moustache clean from the soup. Once that was done, he looked (31) the restaurant as he waited for the next course. There were only a handful of people there, and of those only two interested Black. These two were sitting at a nearby table.

The younger was an American man who looked to be in his early thirties and seemed like a decent guy. However, it was not him but his companion who had (32) the little detective's eye. The older man was probably between sixty and seventy years old.

From a distance, he had the appearance of a philanthropist. He was slightly balding, had a domed forehead, and was wearing a reassuring smile that showed (33) his very white false teeth. Everything about him seemed to speak of a benevolent personality. (34) for one thing—his eyes. Only they belied this assumption. They were small, set (35) in his head, and looked cunning. Plus, as the man said something to his young companion and looked across the room, his eyes met Black's for a moment. In that second, there was an unnatural malevolence in his gaze. Then he (36) up. "Hector, pay the bill," he said in a voice that was slightly husky and had a soft, dangerous quality to it. After that, both men left the room.
