Elk Island National Nature Park in Moscow

“Elk Island” is a national park located in the north-west of Moscow. It is home to an amazing \(1\)\(VARY\) of animal and plant life.
More than 200 \(2\)\(DIFFER\) species of animal live here, many of them hiding away in the depths of the forest. Beavers and otters live in the riverbanks, and there are rare types of bird, too. The park’s richest asset is the woodland that makes up 85 percent of its area. \(3\)\(HISTORY\) documents say that “Elk Island” was a favourite place for Ivan the Terrible to enjoy falconry. The name “Elk Island” was recorded in the early 17th century. At the turn of the century documents \(4\)\(OFFICIAL\) banned \(5\)\(HUNT\) around Moscow. Punishments included hefty fines and banishment to far-flung regions of Russia.
Today “Elk Island” is one of a few \(6\)\(LOCATE\) in Moscow where you can see wild animals in their \(7\)\(NATURE\) environment.
