\(\boxed{40.1}\)

Imagine that you are doing a project about the problems of modern teenagers. You have collected some data on this issue — the results of a sociological survey (see the table below).

Comment on the data in the table and give your personal opinion on the subject of the project.

Activities Number of teenagers (%)
Gym 75
Swimming 69
Walking 25
Jogging 10
Household chores 7

Write 200–250 words.

Use the following plan:

  • make an opening statement on the subject of the project work;
  • select and report 2–3 main features;
  • make 1–2 comparisons where relevant;
  • outline a problem that can arise with teenage issues and suggest the way of solving it;
  • draw a conclusion giving your personal opinion on the issues that worry teenagers most.

Now fill in the gaps.

It is a [well-known|new|trendy]fact that the adolescence period is the time when people are most active. [When|While|On]working on my project about activities that interest teenagers, I [have|have been|has been]collected the results of the opinion polls [from|of|on]the subject. The data of my research are [written|spoken|presented]in the form of a table. I ['m going|am going|going]to cover the main features that are presented in it.

[As|How|While]it is seen in the table, most teenagers are interested [in|about|of]going to the gym and at the same time visiting swimming pools—75 and 69 [commonly|usually|respectively]. It can also [seeing|be seen|see]that [do|does|doing]household chores involves only a minority of teenagers.

As the table [suggests|improves|offers], teenagers might also be keen [about|on|with]walking and jogging. [Despite|Although|However], these issues are only half as important to teenagers [so|as|how]gym classes.

[To|In|For]my opinion, the above-mentioned trend might present the trend that teenagers are getting more and more interested in gym classes. [As a result|Because|Although], many adolescents might have problems with their health if they perform training without special control or they would like to take some supplements to get better and faster results. I am convinced that the best solution [on|about|to]this problem is to provide support from parents and professionals.

[On the one hand|To begin with|In conclusion], I would like [emphasising|to emphasise|emphasise]that adolescence is a very important life stage. Therefore, we need to [pay|make|offer]attention to teenagers' wishes to help them go [along|across|through]this stage successfully.

\(\boxed{40.2}\)

Imagine that you are doing a project about what problems teenagers experience most often. You have collected some data on this issue — the results of a sociological survey (see the diagram below).

Comment on the data in the diagram and give your personal opinion on the subject of the project.

Write 200–250 words.

Use the following plan:

  • make an opening statement on the subject of the project work;
  • select and report 2–3 main features;
  • make 1–2 comparisons where relevant;
  • outline a problem that can arise with reading and suggest the way of solving it;
  • draw a conclusion giving your personal opinion on the importance of free time activities in teenagers' lives.

Now read the sample piece of writing below and choose the correct options to complete the text.

Physical activities and sport are an important [piece|bit|part]of our life. [As|While|During]working on my project about the age when people mostly start doing sport, I [have|have been|am]collected the results of the opinion polls [for|to|on]the subject. The data of the poll are [gifted|performed|presented]in the form of a diagram. I ['m going|am going|going]to outline the main features the diagram reflects and [divide|compare|confront]the data.

[As|How|While]it is presented by the diagram, a very large proportion of [adolescents|people|children]start doing sport at the age of five and seven–seventy-three and sixty-nine per cent [commonly|usually|respectively]. It can also[seeing|be seen|see]that only a small [minority|sum|quantity]of people start doing sports when they are adults.

As the diagram [suggests|improves|offers], some take up a new activity at the age of thirteen and twenty. [Despite|Although|However], these age periods are not on the same level as other ones.

[To|In|For]my opinion, the above-mentioned trend might [cause|reason|effect]a significant problem. At such [an|a|-]age, kids cannot make their conscious choice. It means that the idea of doing something, as a hobby mostly comes from parents. Thus it can lead to internal protest and even if it is a correct match for a child, they will sooner or later decline it.

[On the one hand|To begin with|In conclusion], I would like [emphasising|to emphasise|emphasise]that probably the early age is not the perfect time to choose a sport that can become the priority in your life. [Personally|Despite|Therefore], if we want teenagers to indulge in certain activities, we have to show its [price|value|cost]first.
